World of Warcraft: Cataclysm is the exciting new expansion for the world’s most popular MMORPG, raising the level cap to 85, completely redesigning the old world (all content from levels 1 to 60), changing the ways your character’s talents and abilities work, and adding two new races – the clever Horde-side Goblins and the ferocious Worgen on the Alliance. You are probably wondering how to get an edge in Cataclysm – and here are some tips on how to do that.
The first thing to realize is that the pre-Outland leveling experience is completely different than it was before. Many zones have been redesigned, new quest hubs and innumerable new quests have been added, and there is no longer a single path through the 1-60 content. There are multiple ways you can level up, meaning that you don’t need to take alts through the same quests over and over again – there is much more to discover and enjoy.
Quests in Cataclysm are made to be a lot more challenging than the original ones. You need to carry out a lot of special actions during them, such as taming animals or monsters, keeping NPCs alive while carrying out other objectives (sort of an advanced version of escort quests), etc. You need to be ready for this and shed your old questing habits quickly.
One way to get your leveling to 85 kicked off to a good start, and get an edge in Cataclysm, is to complete a full roster of 25 daily quests in Northrend, but don’t turn them in. As soon as you have the expansion installed and running, turn in those quests and get a big jolt of experience – perhaps enough to gain a level or two and skip some of the lower content, giving you a quicker route to 85.
